PROTECTING WHAT MATTERS IN THE BARNETT shale

With advanced technologies, state of the art controls and adherence to the highest environmental standards, many Barnett Shale producers are going above and beyond to protect North Texas’ air quality.

Working closely with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), producers in the region are either meeting or exceeding federal air safety standards. And each rigorously follows guidelines set by state and local governments, which are many times even stricter than federal standards.

The majority of North Texas producers also participate in the EPA Natural Gas STAR Program. This voluntary partnership improves environmental performance and reduces methane emissions through the use of effective technologies and practices.

In 2010, the nation’s Natural Gas STAR partners reported emissions reductions of approximately 94.1 billion cubic feet (Bcf) – equivalent to reducing CO2 emissions from nearly 10 coal-fired power plants or the energy used by more than 3.5 million homes.
